IMPERIAL PLANT TO GO INTO PRODUCTION ON AUGUST 11
DETROIT -- Chrysler Corporation's integrated body building and assembly installation to be devoted exclusively to the manufacture of Imperial automobiles will begin production August 11, C. E. Briggs, Corporation vice president and general manager of the Imperial Division, announced today.
Opening of the plant marks a further step in the Corporation's plan, inaugurated several years ago, of setting the Imperial apart from other cars.
Since 1926, when the first one was produced, Imperials have been built in the Corporation's East Jefferson plant along with Chrysler automobiles. Beginning in 1955 the Imperial was given a distinctively different styling treatment and in 1957 this was carried forward to the degree that there are no longer any body parts interchangeable with Chrysler.
In the new facility, facing on Warren Avenue in Dearborn near the Detroit municipal boundary, production of Imperials will be under the control of a separate manufacturing staff having specialized equipment and skills assigned to the operation.
