MANUFACTURING AND PRODUCTION INNOVATIONS NUMEROUS IN NEW IMPERIAL PLANT
A new static body control switching system will be among the many manufacturing and production techniques to be used in the new Imperial plant.
The first body switching system of its kind in the automotive industry, this modern body selection method is designed to automatically assign a proper body to its companion chassis as both, components move toward final assembly.
The system works this way: a master control panel located along the assembly line monitors six body feeder lines. As the chassis moves down the line, the bodies, which, have been previously arranged in proper scheduling sequence, are automatically selected from one of the feeder lines and placed on proper chassis.
The new system thus eliminates congestion of work load in any one area along the body-drop portion of the line through pin-point body spacing.
A TROPICAL RAINSTORM
A "rain-storm in a box" designed to check body water tightness will be another production innovation in the Imperial plant. Located on the final line, the water test booth, 25 feet in. length, equipped with 118 jet nozzles, 22 of them directed to the underside of the vehicle, will pour a deluge of recirculated water
