Joe has kindly written up a little history and personal reflection on the legendary Chrysler Airflows.  "Among the many firsts, Airflows have a unitized welded body construction and was designed in a wind tunnel with Wilbur and Orville Wright as consultants.  In 1934, race driver Harry Hartz established a total of 72 official AAA closed stock car records in a 1934 Chrysler Airflow Model CU Coupe during a one day trail run at the Great Salt Desert, Utah. Thirty-five of the records were in the Unlimited Stock Car class which included cars of any engine displacement.  The Chrysler Airflow established the following speed records:

AVERAGE SPEED  TOTAL MILE RUN
95.70 MPH 1
90.04 MPH 500
 84.43 MPH  2026.40(For a 24 hour run)

Besides this 1936 Chrysler Imperial Airflow Coupe, I have owned four other Airflows.  They are fantastic cars to drive, they keep up with traffic, both city and Interstate speeds. Airflow National meets are usually held throughout the United States yearly, from one coast to the other, and Airflows are "driven" to these meets (not trailered).  Returning to my home from a car show with my other Airflow, I slowed down to make a left hand turn into my driveway.  Coming towards me was a new Corvette convertible, Ticket-Met Red, that my neighbor had recently ordered.  I decided to not turn in front of him but let him go by so that I could get a good look at his new Corvette.  Much to my surprise, he stopped and looked at me, presumably for a word or two of appreciation.  Deciding to burst his bubble,  looking down from my lofty perch in my Airflow, I said, 'Want to Drag?' "
