This Imperial was offered for sale on Ebay in June of 2012.

Here's what the seller had to say about this rare 1954:

This beautiful six passenger Chrysler Imperial Custom was purchased in sunny Southern California back in 1954 and has remained in the state to this day. We acquired this vehicle as part of a ten car barn find and have put a bit of work into uncovering its history.

Car History

It was originally purchased in Southern California in the '50s, and was relocated to Santa Barbara, California in the early 1980's. Over a period of about seven years, the car's new owner set about a number of improvements:

The motor was rebuilt and balanced

The transmission was removed, inspected, and found to have been very recently rebuilt. It was serviced and reinstalled.

Replaced the radiator

Body was stripped to bare metal and re-sprayed in the original color.

Many of the chrome pieces were sent off and re-plated (unfortunately, the bumpers have become pitted over the last 25 years)

Black Beauty was driven for about 1,000 miles after completion of these improvements (according to the former owner), and was then re-sold in the late 1980's to a wealthy industrialist who lived here on California's Central Coast. The car was then put into storage on a large horse ranch and remained in a barn for over twenty years--until we recovered it.

Although the car was in fairly remarkable shape after sitting for two decades, we performed a number of improvements to make it serviceable once more:

Rebuilt the entire braking system, including the master cylinder, wheel cylinders, and power booster

Rebuilt the power steering box

Completely brand new interior

Rebuilt fuel pump

Rebuilt water pump

New Battery

Rebuilt carburetor

The result?

Everything works! From the power windows down to the radio, everything works wonderfully except for the fuel gauge. The turn signals and lights work perfectly, the mechanicals are excellent, and the body has no rust whatsoever. The underside of the car was coated years ago and is in great shape -- the floor pans are as solid as when they were new.

(And as mentioned earlier, there is some pitting of the chrome on the bumpers.)
