Gary Rader's 1991 Imperial

I have a 1991 Imperial. It is a four-door sedan in a dusty rose color. I purchased it from a used car lot in Springfield, Missouri where I live, in July 2006. It was a one owner (local man) who traded it in for a new Chrysler. It was in excellent condition with only 75,000 miles on it. It is fairly basic without a lot of extras on it.

I have wanted an Imperial since I was 13 years old. When I was a kid I would watch the Beverly Hillbillies on TV and see the Drysdale's next door who drove Imperials. I used to fantasize about driving one when I was an adult. In 1973 my parents bought a gun-metal gray Imperial LeBaron. I loved it and so did my father. My mother hated it. It was too big. Big it was!

I wanted a either a 1961, 1964, 1967 or 1968 model Imperial. Unfortunately, I lived in Germany for many years and then bought a house in Missouri with a garage too small for a '60s-sized Imperial. So, I started looking for a 1990-93 model. In July 2006 I found it. I have been very pleased with it, and it fits (barely) in the garage.

The 1991 model is very elegant in design and I especially like the squared off trunk and waterfall grille on the front.

The only damage to the paint was caused by drips of battery acid on the area above the left front headlight. I hope to have that fixed soon.

The trunk key latch cover does not have the eagle emblem on it as does the 1993 model. I am looking for a replacement for the 1991 Chrysler star emblem with the later model Imperial eagle emblem.

The dash also needs an additional Imperial eagle symbol on it that is bold and stands out.

Otherwise, I am very happy with my Imperial and I hope to keep it until it becomes a classic.

My nick name at work is "HIM" -- "His Imperial Majesty," so driving an Imperial suits me. My vanity tags say, HIM-IMP. I call the car--my IMP.
