The fuel-pump found inside the gas-tank on 1981-83 Imperials is a fully-immersed unit that gets noisier as it starts to fail. It can be replaced (with a bit of plumbing-work) with a 1980's Ford Mustang unit, part #33333. Here's how I did it:
