Tom Cox's 1956 Imperial Newport 2-Door

Imperial Home Page -> Imperials by Year -> 1956 -> Tom Cox

Tom Cox of Anderson South Carolina recently sent in some photos of his beautiful black1956 Newport. Here's what he had to say about it.

My 56 2 Dr Southampton was originally shipped to Hawaii; make that no heat and no air conditioning. The body was in incredible shape with no rust, brakes were like new and mechanically it was in excellent shape except for the driveshaft link which I had to have revulcanized.

The chrome was a disaster with pits on top of pits. The outside rear window base trim was so bad the chrome plater laughed at me and said I would have to do without it. He said it wouldn't survive the strip tank. So, I plated the rest of the trim items and had the window base trim painted with elecroluminescent paint which looks like chrome, almost. It has a clear coat that seems soft relative to paint clear coat but at least I have all the trim in place.

The car is great; it drives like a dream. It has the 3-speed torqueflite and it purrs. I put DiamondBack radials for drivability and I am planning a long trip to see how well it does.

We hope Tom will share more photos with us soon!
